Groovy Giraffe

Giraffe Top

Sometimes there’s nothing more relaxing than spending a weekend away from the city. I’ve been making frequent trips to my hometown of Guilford, Connecticut lately, and I can’t help but notice that my mood is just different upon my return to New York. It’s better! The zen only lasts a few days before I fall back into the stresses of daily city life, but it’s amazing what a little fresh country air can do!

On that relaxed note, Meredith and I agreed that this ensemble errs on the casual side of my corporate closet, which is why I chose to wear it last Friday. I think the top’s pseudo-giraffe print certainly tones the seriousness down.  I write “pseudo” because the print is actually a compilation of different sized squares and rectangles, but from a distance it looks similar to an animal print. We don’t have official “Casual Fridays” at my office, but I tend to save my most casual corporate ensembles for the end of the week. Do any of you have causal Fridays? Who else is looking forward to post-Memorial Day dress codes?

The photo above is not especially flattering, but it shows my new hair color well. I had an itch to make it a little more funky, so instead of dying parts of it purple as I originally had planned (but then decided that wasn’t professional enough for my office environment), I compromised and got more blonde streaks in front. You likey?

I think your hair looks awesome!

I have a totally unrelated question: I’ve been wearing heels all winter with tights, but now that it’s time to go with bare legs, I find my shoes to be quite uncomfortable. It’s like my feet get all sticky, and they stick to the bottom of my shoes. I’ve tried those mini-sock footie things, but they always peek out and show. Do you have any suggestions?

    • Lindsay says:

Yes! In addition to Delenn’s suggestion, Meredith and I have both tried Silver Linings, (http://www.silverliningsnewyork.com/), which absorb sweat and give your shoes a little extra cushion. They don’t entirely remove the odor from shoes like they claim, but it may be just the thing for you.

Thanks for the tip – I’ll have to try it out. I’m in DC this summer, so hosiery is just not going to happen unfortunately.

  • Delenn says:

@Lindsay: Love the top and the shoes. I’m not sure about the hair. It works better in some photos than others. In #3 (sitting) it looks great on you, but in the next shot, it looks very flat and dry.

@Kim: Been there, done that. :-) Best solution I found was to wear hosiery all year, however I’m in a cool enough climate to do that without getting too hot.

    • Lindsay says:

Delenn, thanks for the honesty! The flatness is an unfortunate side effect of the wonderful weather we’ve been having in the northeast lately – rain, rain, rain and tons of humidity.

Hair looks good! Thought the shoes looked familiar!

  • Love the new hair! Perfectly lightened for the upcoming summer :)

And I find it so funny that this outfit is casual for your office… this is everyday wear at mine. In fact, I wish more people dressed this well Monday through Thursday! We do have casual Fridays year round, which sometimes brings out the most… err “creative” outfits from my colleagues, lol!

I wish I had been around this weekend to witness the photos. As always, wonderful!

  • [...] time I wore this top on Cubicle Chic, it was for an office look and I called it the  giraffe top because, as part of that combination, it looked vaguely like an animal print. It’s awesome [...]
